What is World Health Day?
World Health Day (WHD) is a global health awareness day celebrated on 7 April every year.
“Building a fairer, healthier world for everyone”
This World Health Day, we are called for action to eliminate health inequities.
In recent years, countries in the Western Pacific have experienced rapid economic growth, migration and urbanization. This created opportunities for better lives for many, but left others behind. The COVID-19 pandemic has undercut recent health gains, pushed more people into poverty and food insecurity, and amplified gender, social and health inequities.
The world is still an unequal one. The places where we live, work and play may make it harder for some to reach their full health potential, while others thrive.
While some are enjoying a luxurious living that provides them with extra comfort, there are people who cannot even afford the basic requirements of living. They do not have shelter to live, food to eat, and clothes to wear.
However, health inequity is preventable! While WHO urges leaders to monitor health inequities, and to ensure that all people are able to access quality health services depending on their needs and values within their communities, we as individuals, can make meaningful contributions to help the needy.
So, what can we do to help build a fairer world?
